On Saturday, June 18, Art Basel hosted Parcours Night, an evening of live performances throughout Basel’s city center, featuring: Puppies Puppies, Oscar Murillo, Jan Vorisek, Antonio Jose Guzman and Iva Jankovic, Atelier GF Workstation, and Ellie Ga. Museums and venues presenting Parcours projects held extended opening hours to provide visitors a unique experience.

9 April 2022 till 2 October 2022 - The - Artist Antonio José Guzman and textile designer Iva Jankovic explore the colonial history of indigo in a monumental installation of indigo canvases commissioned by the TextielMuseum.

The fabrics were embroidered in the TextielLab with symbols from traditional African texts and alphabets, giving new visibility to the African culture that was suppressed by European colonists.

EDS Series: Electric Dub Station is an ongoing project by visual artists Antonio Jose Guzman and Iva Jankovic. Together, they reinterpret the transatlantic connections of indigo textiles, which are deeply embedded with the history of western colonialism. In their work the indigo color represents the diasporic, cultural, and economic history of textile trade and memories of ancient spirits. The textiles are developed in the artist's studio in Amsterdam Oost and block printed at Sufiyan Khatri’s Indigo Workshop in Ajrakhpur, India.

Constant 101: The Future can be Humane. In 2021 it was 101 years that the artist Constant was born. On the occasion of this anniversary, Fondation Constant launched the large-scale collaborative project Constant 101. As part of this collaboration, the Cobra Museum of Modern Art organised an exhibition in which, in addition to works by Constant, new work by contemporary artists Antonio Jose Guzman (1971) and Antonis Pittas (1973) were also presented.

FORCE TIMES DISTANCE ON LABOUR AND ITS SONIC ECOLOGIES - sonsbeek 20>24 international contemporary art exhibition - Arnhem, the Netherlands is centered around labour and its sonicities, connects a millenary history crossing times and geographies to the present moment.

Based on labour and its sonicity, the 12th edition of sonsbeek quadrennial for art in the public space—is co-curated by Antonia Alampi, Amal Alhaag, Zippora Elders and Aude Christel Mgba under the artistic direction of Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung.

Electric Dub Station (Orbital Ignition): This site-specific installation and procession investigates the transatlantic, colonial history of indigo related to its production on Surinamese and Javanese plantations and in Europe including Arnhem’s province of Gelderland.

Some of the artists and collectives in the exhibitions include Leo Asemota, Sam Auinger, Black Archives, Willem de Rooij, Cheick Diallo, Ndidi Dike, Justine Gaga, Ellen Gallagher, Antonio Jose Guzman and Iva Jankovic, Ibrahim Mahama, Oscar Murillo, Hira Nabi, Olu Oguibe, Wendelien van Oldenborgh, Jennifer Tee, Werker Collective, Stanley Brouwn, Sedje Hémon, Imran Mir, and Abdias do Nascimento.

I'm thrilled to announce that I'm part of the jury commission team of The Prix de Rome 2021 - Prix de Rome - Mondriaan Fonds, the oldest and most generous award in the Netherlands for visual artists and architects. The award dates back to 1808 when Louis Napoleon introduced the Prix de Rome in the Netherlands to promote the arts.

The jury members for 2021 are: Ann Demeester (director, Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem), Amira Gad (head of programs, LAS Light Art Space, Berlin), Antonio Jose Guzman (visual artist, researcher, lecturer), Samuel Leuenberger (director, SALTS, Basel) and Viviane Sassen (photographer, winner of the 2007 Prix de Rome in Visual Arts). Chair is Eelco van der Lingen (director Mondriaan Fund).

The Supreme Exodus by Antonio Jose Guzman

Guzman’s largest project to date commissioned by Detras del Muro, 13th Havana Biennial.

An internationally renowned artist who investigate the work of genetic research and study the history of textiles traces. Guzman has created a unique performance piece for the opening of the 13th Havana Biennial, highlighting the positive role of migration in the Americas.

`using his mixed DNA on textile fabrics and a genetic music composition based on his own Panamanian ancestry. His work is collected internationally and held in numerous public and private collections.
